PHOENIX (August 4, 2017) — Phoenix Rising FC begins a three-game road trip on Saturday, August 5, in Carson, California, aiming to complete a season sweep of Los Angeles Galaxy II.

After come-from-behind victories in its first two meetings with Los Dos this year, Rising FC (6-7-4) will have a chance to go 3-0-0 against their LA rivals in a season for the second time in three years. Phoenix went 3-0-0 against Galaxy II in 2015, only to see LA respond by winning all three fixtures in the series last year.

Rising FC enters Saturday’s match on a two-match losing streak, a similar run of form they had entering their April 8 match against Los Dos. That night, after an Adonis Amaya opening goal for Galaxy II (5-11-4), Luke Rooney netted a brace to lead Phoenix to their first win of the season.

In May, the two clubs meet again at the Stubhub Center Track Stadium, and despite having lost Rooney weeks earlier to a torn ACL, Rising FC again overturned a 1-0 deficit thanks to goals from Eric Avila and Jason Johnson.

Since suffering an early July 9-0 rout at the hands of Reno 1868 FC, Los Dos have recovered, going 2-0-2 in the four games since, the last three being at their home stadium. Last Wednesday Galaxy II defeated crosstown rivals Orange County SC 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from midfielder Ryo Fujii, giving the team just their second home win all season.

Galaxy II’s offense has been centered around forward Justin Dhillon and midfielder Adrian Vera this year. Dhillon leads the team with six goals, just one better than Vera’s five. Defensively, Los Dos have been one of the poorest units in the league; their 43 goals allowed is second worst in the USL, only one better than Seattle Sounders 2.

Saturday’s trip to LA will snap a difficult run of fixtures for Rising FC, who have not played a team currently outside the Western Conference’s top eight since June 10; in the seven matches since, the club has won just once and scored only six goals.

The squad was bolstered by the returns of forward Chris Cortez and midfielder Alessandro Riggi last week. The attacking duo each returned from lengthy injury absences in the 1-0 loss to San Antonio, giving head coach Patrice Carteron two new options at his disposal.

While Phoenix can continue their recent dominance over Galaxy II with a win on Saturday, the all-time series between the clubs is dead even. In 12 previous matches, each team has won five times, while drawing the other two matches.

Rising FC (6-6-4) had been unbeaten in all six matches under head coach Patrice Carteron before suffering a 3-0 loss to Tulsa Roughnecks FC last week in Oklahoma. Prior to the defeat, Phoenix had been 2-0-4 in their previous six.

San Antonio FC (10-1-7) make their only trip to Arizona this weekend on a down note, having managed just three points in their past four contests. Last week, the club had a second-half lead at home over the Western Conference-leading Real Monarchs, only to see the league leaders equalize in the 86th minute.

Both Phoenix and San Antonio dropped in the standings after dropping points last week. Rising FC could have moved into the top eight with a win, but instead slipped to 11th after the loss, while San Antonio fell out of the top two for the first time since early April.

Midfielder Billy Forbes has spearheaded the San Antonio attack this year; his seven goals lead the team. Kris Tyrpak and Cesar Elizonda have also chipped in four goals apiece, but it has been a stalwart defensive unit that has helped San Antonio rise to the top of standings. The team has conceded just 10 goals all year, best in the league.

In this season’s earlier matchup between the clubs, San Antonio scored early, as Akwafei Ajeakwa found the goal in the 12th minute, and held off Rising FC’s attack to win 1-0.

Historically, Rising FC are 1-2-1 against San Antonio, but have won the only match played in Arizona, when they blanked the Texas club 1-0 last season. Luke Rooney is the only Rising FC player to have scored multiple goals against San Antonio, as he netted a brace in the team’s 3-2 loss at Toyota Field last year.

PHOENIX (July 21, 2017) – Phoenix Rising FC head back out on the road this weekend looking to extend their club-record six-match unbeaten streak against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday, July 22 at 5:30 p.m.

Rising FC (6-5- 4) have yet to lose under the guidance of head coach Patrice Carteron, and are coming off a come-from-behind victory against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday. After conceding a goal in the first half, Phoenix Rising FC got two goals from substitute forward Jason Johnson to clinch the club’s first victory since June 10. For his efforts, Johnson was named the USL’s Player of the Week.

Meanwhile, Tulsa (7-8- 1) return home after a successful two-game road trip, where they beat in-state rivals OKC Energy FC 2-1 on July 8, and overturned a two-goal deficit against Galaxy II in a 2-2 draw last Thursday. Those two results were preceded by an impressive home win over top-of-the table Real Monarchs SLC, 2-0.

At the end of USL’s 17th week, Phoenix Rising FC and Tulsa have the same number of points (22). But the Roughnecks are in the eighth and final playoff spot because they have more total wins. If Phoenix Rising FC win, they will jump Tulsa and move into the final playoff spot.

Saturday’s trip to Tulsa will be the 16th league game for Phoenix Rising this season, marking their halfway point of the season. Rising FC can set a new record for the best 16 game start to a season in club history with at least a point Saturday; the team also secured 22 points in its first 16 games of the 2015 season, the current high-mark.

Rising FC have never earned a victory in their history against Tulsa, and just once have clinched a draw. Last year, Roughnecks FC won both meetings against Rising FC by a goal. Phoenix Rising has failed to earn a point in two previous trips to northeastern Oklahoma.

Phoenix’s Josh Cohen has conceded just one goal from open play in his last five starts, and has made the third most saves in the Western Conference, 38, in 2017. Meanwhile, Switchbacks FC keeper Moise Poutay has recorded four clean sheets and 51 saves this season, good for third- and second-most respectively in the conference.

Rising FC (5-5-4) son invictos desde la introducción del Nuevo entrenador Patrice Carteron y delantero Didier Drogba. Entrando en el partido de este fin de semana el club se sienta dos puntos y dos lugares fuera de las ocho posiciones en los playoffs del Western Conference.

Los Colorado Springs (6-6-6), con cuatro partidos jugados más que Rising FC, entrando al partido del sábado en sexto lugar. Los Switchbacks FC también empataron su último partido, 2-2, dando dos goles muy temprano en el partido en casa contra los Whitecaps FC 2.

PHOENIX (July 7, 2017) – Phoenix Rising FC wrap up a two-match road trip this Saturday, July 8, at Orange County SC. The match kicks off at 5 p.m. and this will be the first time both clubs face each other this season.

Fans can watch the match one of three ways. Rising FC remain unbeaten under the guidance of head coach Patrice Carteron after its first clean sheet of the season in a 0-0 draw against Reno 1868 FC last Friday, June 30. In the club’s four matches under Carteron, Rising FC has gone 1-0-3.

Orange County, who have played just ten league games so far, will enter the match four points behind Phoenix in the USL’s Western Conference standings, and six points out of the playoff picture. Orange County slipped down the standings during May, thanks to a three-game losing streak where they were outscored 6-0 by their opponents.

But the team has rediscovered its attack in its last two games, a 4-3 win over Seattle Sounders 2 and a 3-3 draw against Portland Timbers 2. Head coach Logan Pause switched to a 4-4-1-1 set up for their match against Seattle, moving winger Jerry van Ewjik into a central attacking role, and recalling midfielder Amirgy Pineda into the middle of the pitch.

Ewjik and Pineda will miss out on Saturday night’s match, however, as they both begin lengthy suspensions after getting involved in a scuffle in last week’s draw with Portland. Ewjik will miss five games for Orange County, while Saturday will be the first of a six-game suspension for Pineda.

Orange County will look to defender Roy Meeus and midfielders Carlos Alvarez and Gustavo Villalobos to fill the offensive shoes left by the suspended duo; each of the three have scored two goals during Orange County’s last two games.

In net, Orange County goalkeeper Charlie Lyon has played every minute of every USL game for the Southern California club this year, collecting two clean sheets and a 65.4 save percentage.

Josh Cohen will stand opposite of Lyon’s goal on Saturday, riding high after securing his first shutout of the campaign against Reno. Cohen, whose 36 saves is good for ninth most in the league, put in a heroic effort to keep the high-octane Reno attack off the board last Friday; the Rising keeper, who played for Orange County during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, saved a penalty kick in the 35th minute before coming up with a miraculous diving finger-tip stop minutes later. The diving stop was awarded as the USL Save of the Week.

Phoenix Rising FC can make club history on Saturday with a win or draw, as the team has never achieved a five-game unbeaten streak in USL play. Carteron can also put his name in the records books on Saturday; with a draw at Orange County Great Park, the Rising FC manager can equal Michael Dellurusso’s mark for the best five-game start to a coaching tenure at the club, or break the record with a win (Dellurusso earned seven points in his first five games with the club in 2014; Carteron has six points in his first four).

While Saturday will be the first meeting between the two Western Conference Rivals this year, Phoenix and Orange County have been no strangers during Rising FC’s existence. PHOENIX (June 29, 2017) – Phoenix Rising FC heads back on the road this Friday, June 30, looking to extend their season-long three match unbeaten streak in Nevada against Reno 1868 FC.

In addition to their pursuit of a fourth straight positive result, Rising FC will be eyeing revenge against the team that handed them their worst defeat of the season, a 4-0 loss in Phoenix on May 6, 2017. That night, Reno forward Dane Kelly’s hat trick helped the expansion club earn its first-ever win.

Nearly two months later, Phoenix Rising FC will make its first-ever visit to Greater Nevada Field in search of its first win against Reno, and first road win under head coach Patrice Carteron.

Reno used their win against Rising FC as a springboard for a six-match unbeaten streak that lasted from May 6 until a loss against Real Monarchs SLC on June 19. During that run, Reno went 5-0-1, scored 22 goals, and recorded four clean sheets.

Kelly, the USL’s all-time leading scorer, is once again among the league’s leader in the category, with his 12 goals this campaign second only to the 13 scored by Charleston forward Romario Williams. Midfielder Antoine Hoppenot has provided secondary scoring for Reno, adding five goals of his own to help the club reach their current position of fourth in the Western Conference standings.

But Phoenix Rising FC will be riding high when they visit northern Nevada, having held the conference’s best team, Real Monarchs SLC, to a 1-1 draw at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex last Saturday, June 24. Omar Bravo scored his first league goal for the club that night, and his first from open play, to ensure the team remained unbeaten since the arrival of Carteron.

With a win or draw on Friday, Phoenix would match a franchise-record-long unbeaten streak of four, a feat it has accomplished three times before.

The 4-0 Reno win in May is the only prior meeting between the two clubs. Rising FC is 1-3-1 in road games this year, while Reno is 4-1-2 at home.

PHOENIX (June 24, 2017) — Phoenix Rising FC stopped Real Monarchs SLC’s nine-match win streak but didn’t end the unbeaten streak in a 1-1 draw with the Western Conference’s No. 1 team. The draw also extends Phoenix’s unbeaten streak to three matches (1-0-2).

“We think it’s a good point today because we draw against a team that just beat a record with nine-straight wins, so I did appreciate the spirit,” said Phoenix Rising FC head coach Patrice Carteron. “Step by step we are progressing; it’s now the third game (under Carteron’s management), we are unbeaten and I think we are sure to progress in the next week.”

With Phoenix Rising (5-5-2) down a goal in the waning moments of the first half, forward Didier Drogba held up a ball long enough to lay off a pass for a charging Matt Watson. The midfielder sent a right-to-left pass across the box on his first touch and found forward Omar Bravo running toward the net. Bravo smashed the ball into the back of the net for the match equalizer.

“I think it’s always important to score,” Bravo said. “We leave with an OK feeling, because I think the team had some options to win. But well we keep trying to get better and win three points at a time.”

The Monarchs (12-1-1) scored early in the match to take the 1-0 lead. In the 12th minute, Demar Phillips received a pass out wide to the left side of the pitch. He quickly sent a long diagonal pass toward the near right post where his teammate Daniel Haber was able to deflect the ball past Phoenix goalkeeper Josh Cohen.

Phoenix Rising FC will go back on the road for back-to-back matches starting with a trip to Reno 1868 FC on Friday, June 30. Fans attending the match are encouraged to help the club “Melt the Monarchs” as the team looks to use Arizona’s unique weather to their advantage. Fans will be given complimentary waters and cooling bandanas by Phoenix Rising FC and Swire Coca-Cola as they enter the stadium and cooling stations will be located around the stadium complex.

Both teams come into the game in good form, with Rising FC going unbeaten in their previous two while the Monarchs are riding a league-record nine-match winning streak.
