PHOENIX, AZ (March 31, 2018) — Following a statement win in its home opener, Phoenix Rising FC (1-0-1) goes back on the road to square off against Reno 1868 FC (0-1-1) on Saturday. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m. local time and fans can watch the match on Yurview Arizona, Cox channels 4&1004 in Phoenix and 7&1007 in Tucson. They can also stream the match on www.phxrisingfc.com.
"We must keep on working hard," said Phoenix Rising head coach Patrice Carteron. "Because even if the final score was a positive we want to control the game the whole way. There are always improvements to be made. We know that in soccer everything is a matter of spirit. I just want all of the players to understand this and make sure they are giving their best from one week to the next. We need to get better from game to game and know we still have a lot of work to do."
Phoenix Rising's offense has been rolling just two matches into the season. The club's five goals is a record for most goals scored in the first two matches of the season. And the team's five assists is also a record for most assist over any two-match stretch.
Chris Cortez, who scored a hat trick in the home opener, moved to second on the club's career scoring list (15 goals), surpassing Jason Johnson (13). And Solomon Asante became just the third player in club history to score a goal in each of his first two matches. If he scores this weekend he would become the first player in club history to score a goal in each of his first three matches.
There isn't a long history between the two clubs as Reno 1868 FC joined the league last season. But Reno is unbeaten in the only two matches the clubs have played. In their first-ever meeting, Phoenix Rising fell 4-0 on May 6, 2017. In their second meeting, the clubs battled to a 0-0 draw.
