
PHOENIX (November 13, 2019) — Phoenix Rising Football Club head coach Rick Schantz, captain Solomon Asante and goalkeeper Zac Lubin were among the award finalists unveiled by USL Championship today. It’s the first time in club history a player or coach has been on an award finalists list.
Schantz is a Coach of the Year finalist after he led the club to a 24-4-6 record and the 2019 USL Championship Regular Season Title. In addition to breaking league records for most wins (24) and points (78) in a season, the club also set the North American professional soccer record for most consecutive wins (20) under Schantz’s guidance. Schantz also moved himself to the top of the club’s all-time wins list in 2019.
Asante is an MVP finalist after he broke the USL Championship records for assists (17) and combined goals and assists (39) in a single season. His 22 goals scored broke a single-season club record and was just three goals shy of the league record. He was also USL’s Golden Boot Winner and was named to the 2019 All-League First Team.
Lubin is a Goalkeeper of the Year finalist after he set a club record for most clean sheets in a season (14). His 14 clean sheets in 2019 were tied for the most in the league and he was named to the 2019 All-League Second Team.
