PHOENIX (August 25, 2017) — Phoenix Rising FC returns home from an undefeated three-match road trip to face Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, August 26, at 8 p.m. at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.
Tickets for the match are still available and can be purchased at www.www.phxrisingfc.com. Fans can also watch the match live locally on YurView Arizona Cox Channels 7 & 1007 (HD) or online at www.www.phxrisingfc.com.
After a 1-0-2 trip through Los Angeles, Rio Grande Valley, and Orange County, Rising FC are set for their first home match since July 29. This week’s game will kick off a three-match home stand for Phoenix Rising, as they will also host Seattle Sounders FC 2 (September 2) and Orange County SC (September 6).
Despite picking up points in three straight matches, Rising FC remain outside of the Western Conference’s top eight. Entering Week 23, the team trailed OKC Energy FC by three points for the final playoff spot. However, Rising FC have played the fewest amount of games of any Western Conference team, giving them games-in-hand over their fellow playoff contenders.
Sacramento Republic FC make their first trip of the season to Arizona in a much safer spot in the standings. Republic FC sit fifth in the West with 34 points, five clear of ninth-place Seattle, but also five back of fourth-place Reno 1868 FC.
Republic FC, one of the best passing teams in USL, have been led offensively this season by the trio of Trevin Ceasar, Samuel Ochoa, and Tyler Blackwood. Ceasar leads Sacramento with six goals, while Ochoa and former Rising FC player Blackwood have contributed five a piece. Ochoa also leads the team with five assists.
Phoenix Rising have another multi-goal scorer now, after Chris Cortez netted his second tally of the year in a 1-1 draw with Orange County SC last week. Rising FC came within minutes of winning at Orange County despite playing the entire second half with 10 men following an AJ Gray red card, but conceded an 89th-minute equalizer to settle for the club’s second straight draw.
Saturday will be the first meeting between Phoenix Rising and Sacramento Republic of 2017. Last year, Rising FC went 0-1-1 against Sacramento, earning a 1-1 draw in the game played in Arizona. Blackwood scored Rising FC’s lone goal that night. The all-time series between Phoenix Rising and Republic FC is 4-1-3 in favor of the Northern California club.
