
Phoenix Rising FC continues their three match home stand against another Western Conference playoff rival on Saturday when they host Seattle Sounders FC 2 at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex for the first time this season.

Phoenix Rising enters Saturday’s match on a four-game unbeaten streak, highlighted by the club’s 3-1 victory over Sacramento Republic FC last week. Forward Chris Cortez scored and added two assists in the win, good enough to earn himself USL Team of the Week honors.
During their unbeaten run, Rising FC have climbed the Western Conference standings, moving from 11th to 9th in that span. They enter Saturday just three points out of the top eight, and with games in hand on everybody else on the table.
Meanwhile, Seattle makes its only 2017 trip to Arizona knowing a win would see them jump over Phoenix Rising in the standings. Sounders FC 2 however, have played four more games than Rising FC.
Defensively, Seattle rank near the bottom of the league. Their 50 goals conceded is most in the USL, and they are in the bottom third of the league with only five clean sheets this year.
Sounders FC 2 have had success in finding the back of thenet however. Led by top scorer Zach Mathers, who has nine goals this season, Seattle has scored 38 times as a team, good for seventh most in the USL.
Phoenix Rising hopes to continue its strong run of defensive performances on Saturday. Since a 3-0 loss at Tulsa on July 22, Rising FC has conceded just four goals in five games. Two of those goals against came with the club playing with less than 11 men after red cards.
Saturday will be the first meeting of 2017 between Phoenix Rising and Seattle Sounders FC 2. Last year, the clubs split their two head-to-head matchups, with the road team winning both times. Cortez scored a goal for Phoenix Rising in both matches as well. Seattle leads the all-time series between the two clubs 3-2-0.
