PHOENIX (October 13, 2017) – Phoenix Rising FC will host Portland Timbers 2 in its regular-season finale on Saturday, its final tuneup before the club begins its first-ever playoff run.

Rising FC will finish its franchise-best campaign with a rematch against Timbers 2. When the clubs last met in late September, Phoenix Rising defeated Portland on the road 2-0, a victory that clinched the franchise’s first-ever playoff spot.
Phoenix Rising entered the final weekend of the season in fifth place in the Western Conference. But, the team will need to overcome a three-point deficit and goal difference tiebreaker to move into the conference’s top four and secure a home first-round playoff match.
The club has been on fire lately, winners of seven of its last eight, including each of its last two against Tulsa Roughnecks FC, 4-3, and Rio Grande Valley FC, 2-0.
Forward Jason Johnson has scored five goals in the team’s last five games, while Didier Drogba has scored twice and took a free kick that led to an own goal in the last couple matches.
Portland Timbers 2 meanwhile, will finish the 2017 season in last place regardless of Saturday’s result. The team has lost its last two matches after defeating Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on September 30.
Rising FC’s win over Timbers 2 last month was the club’s first victory over Portland ever. Phoenix Rising is 1-4-1 all-time against Timbers 2.
