PHOENIX (September 26) — Phoenix Rising FC can clinch a playoff berth this Wednesday, as the club travels to Portland to face Timbers 2 on September 27. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. With a win, Rising FC would clinch a spot in the playoffs for the first time in club history.
Fans can watch the match live locally on YurView Arizona Cox Channels 4 & 1004 (Phoenix) or 7 & 1007 (Tucson) or online at www.www.phxrisingfc.com. Fans can also head to the club's official watch party at the Thirsty Lion in Tempe Marketplace.
Phoenix Rising are on the brink of a playoff bid thanks to its unprecedented unbeaten run over the last two months.
The club has picked up points in ten straight matches, including wins in each of its last four. Since the arrival of new head coach Patrice Carteron, Rising FC have lost just two of its 18 matches (9-2-7).
The trip to Portland will be the third part of a four-match road trip through the Pacific Northwest. Rising FC knocked off Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in back-to-back games to begin the trip.
Last Sunday’s 4-0 win over Whitecaps FC 2 lifted the club to 46 points, nine clear of ninth-place Orange Country. With a win on Wednesday, Rising FC would be 12 points ahead of OCSC, who have only four matches left to play this year. Even if OCSC made up the 12-point gap, they would lose out to Rising FC on tiebreakers.
Portland Timbers 2 meanwhile, have been relegated to playing the role of spoiler for the rest of the season, trapped at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with just 12 points this season.
The club has picked up three of those points in its last five matches, including a 0-0 draw with first-place Real Monarchs SLC.
Wednesday will be the first time Phoenix Rising and Timbers 2 have faced each other this season. Rising FC has never beaten Portland in its history, going 0-4-1 all-time against Timbers 2.
