(PHOENIX) April 19, 2017 – Phoenix Rising FC announced today that the club will travel to Tucson, Arizona, for an exhibition match against Premier Development League (PDL) club FC Tucson. The PDL franchise will be made up of players from FC Tucson and the University of Arizona.
“We wanted to make sure we could keep our players match fit during an off week this early in the season,” said Phoenix Rising FC Head Coach Frank Yallop. “FC Tucson has done a tremendous job to make sure youth soccer players in the area have a chance to watch high-level professional soccer in person and we look forward to being a part of that tradition.”
Added FC Tucson Head Coach Jon Pearlman: “This is a great opportunity for younger players in college to have the opportunity to see what it takes to play at the professional level, while also letting us give a homecoming of sorts for Rick Schantz.”
Schantz, who joined the Phoenix Rising FC staff in the offseason as an assistant coach, will return to Tucson for his first appearance on the sideline since leading FC Tucson to three straight PDL National Semifinals.
The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. MST on Saturday, April 29th. Tickets are available online now at fctucson.com.
