Phoenix Rising will officially begin its 2021 preseason with its first training session set for this Sunday, March 7, at Wild Horse Pass, the club announced today.
“Construction of our new stadium at Wild Horse Pass is on schedule to open the 2021 regular season,” said Rising GM Bobby Dulle. “The training facility on site has been approved for use by local officials. We are very excited to get this season underway as the finish to last year left all our returning players with a strong sense of unfinished business.”
The first match Rising will play at Wild Horse Pass is set for next Saturday, March 13, vs. MLS side Sporting KC. No fans or media will be in attendance for the first match of the preseason. The club will look to lift fan restrictions and allow media to cover matches closer to the beginning of the 2021 season.
The USL Championship announced the 2021 league alignments yesterday. Rising will headline the Pacific Division, facing the five California-based clubs – the LA Galaxy II, newcomer Oakland Roots SC, Orange County SC, Sacramento Republic FC and San Diego Loyal SC. Las Vegas Lights FC and Tacoma Defiance complete division lineup.
Rising will bounce between Wild Horse Pass and Tucson as it prepares to kick off its 2021 campaign. Eight of its 12 preseason opponents will be of the MLS caliber as Rising prepares to defend its 2020 Western Conference Title.
Rising and Sounders FC will play a match on April 4 in Seattle.
