
PHOENIX (September 21, 2018) — Phoenix Rising FC looks to continues its good run of form when it travels to Weidner Field to face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The match kicks off at 5:00 p.m, and fans can watch locally on Yurview Arizona, Cox channels 4&1004 in Phoenix and 7&1007 in Tucson. Fans can also stream the match nationwide on ESPN+. The match will also be live on the radio on El Patron 93.7 FM (Spanish language).
Phoenix Rising FC (17-7-5) enters Saturday’s game second in the Western Conference, behind Orange County SC. While Phoenix can’t overtake Orange County SC this weekend, they do control their own destiny, as they have two games in hand over the conference leader and sit just four points back of the top spot.
Saturday night will mark the return of forward Kevaughn Frater to Colorado Springs for the first time as a member of Phoenix Rising FC. Frater scored 12 goals in 29 games for Switchbacks FC last season before making the move to Phoenix in the offseason. Earlier this season, Frater scored against his former club in a 4-0 win for Phoenix at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.
Forward Chris Cortez continues to make waves in the USL, as well as the Phoenix Rising FC record books. Cortez was named to the USL Team of the Week after scoring Phoenix’s lone goal in their 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC 2 last weekend. He is now just one goal away from tying the club’s all-time goal record of 29, currently held by Long Tan.
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC is currently 11th in the Western Conference with 35 points. The team has one win in their last five games, and is coming off a 1-1 draw at home against Rio Grande Valley FC last weekend.
Saturday will be the second meeting this season between Phoenix and Colorado Springs. Rising FC won the previous matchup, 4-0, at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex last month. Colorado Springs holds the advantage in the all-time series, 4-3-0. However, Phoenix has won the last three matchups.
Fans are invited to attend one of the official watch parties on Saturday. In Gilbert, fans can come out to Brass Tap (313 N Gilbert Road). Fans can also attend the watch party at Dave and Buster’s at Tempe Marketplace (2000 E Rio Salado Parkway). The game kicks off at 5:00 p.m.
