Rising FC was not without its chances throughout the match. The team took 17 shots inside the box but just two of them found the target. The first dangerous opportunity for the club came in the 13th minute when Solomon Asante found Junior Flemmings in the box but his shot went just wide.
Asante created another opportunity in the 36th minute, this time finding an on-rushing Jon Bakero who found space inside the box behind a collapsing defense. But he sent the centering pass up and over the crossbar. Then in stoppage time, it was Asante to Bakero, and again, Bakero’s redirection went over the target.
Just ten minutes into the second half, Rising FC sliced up the defense again, this time leaving Bakero to chip a ball to Adam Jahn. But his header went off target. Ten minutes later, the club’s best chance came from the boot of Jason Johnson.
From about 35 yards out from the net, Johnson smashed a left-footed rocket that looked destined for the back of the net. But the shot smashed off the crossbar and back out toward the field of play, keeping the match scoreless.
Lubin notched three saves in his first start of 2019 to earn his first, and the team’s first, clean sheet of 2019.
Phoenix Rising will now travel to Texas for a two-match road swing in El Paso and Austin. The first of the two matches takes place next Saturday, April 13, against El Paso Locomotive. The match is set for 5:30 p.m. and fans can watch it on Your PHX CW, channel 6 (cable) and 61.1 (satellite & over-the-air).
