Phoenix Rising FC has signed David Rodriguez on loan from Mexican first division side Atlético San Luis, pending league and federation approval, the club announced today.
The loan agreement for the 20-year-old younger brother of Rising’s Arturo Rodriguez runs through the end of Phoenix’s 2022 season.
“David will be another fantastic addition to our squad,” said Rising head coach Rick Schantz. “David is a wing that plays with very high energy. He is a very good one-one-one attacker with exceptional skill and quality in the final third. His work rate will fit well with our style. I’m excited to have David join his brother and help us push for the playoffs.”
Rodriguez began his career with Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas Academy in 2017. He scored 10 goals in 13 games for the U-16 team and was named to the 2018 Dallas Cup All-Star team by adidas. Rodriguez made one appearance for the U.S. U-17 National Team in 2018 before signing with North Texas SC of USL League One. North Texas SC won the USL League One title that season. David Rodriguez scored two goals in 30 appearances while Arturo Rodriguez claimed the league MVP trophy with seven goals and 10 assists.
David Rodriguez signed with Liga MX’s Atlético San Luis in 2021. He has nine appearances totaling 478 minutes with Los Atléticos.
