Defenders Joe Farrell and Mike da Fonte scored from corner kicks in the first half before forward Jason Johnson notched his third goal in two games to seal the win.
Rising FC enter this weekend’s slate of matches with 17 goals, tied for the most by any team in the USL. PRFC’s 126 shot attempts this year ranks fourth in the league.
Goalkeeper Zac Lubin recorded his first clean sheet as a member of PRFC in the win over OKC Energy but wasn’t required to make a save, as Rising FC kept Energy FC from putting a single shot on target, the first time PRFC has kept its opponent from registering a shot on target since a 0-0 draw with Orange County SC on September 6, 2017. It was the third clean sheet the club has earned this season.
PRFC now has 18 points through nine league matches this season, which is a record start for the club. The previous record was 13 points set in 2015. As of the conclusion of Wednesday’s game, Rising FC jumped up to second place in the Western Conference.
Tulsa Roughnecks FC (0-3-5) is the last winless side in the Western Conference. After opening their season with three straight defeats, the Roughnecks have drawn in each of their past five. Four of the team’s seven goals have been scored by Joaquin Rivas.
This will be the 7th time the two teams have ever met. Rising FC is 1-4-1 all-time against Tulsa Roughnecks FC but won the most recent meeting, a 4-3 thriller at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex last October.
Fans can watch the match at one of two official watch parties at K O'Donnell's (14850 N. Northsight Blvd., Scottsdale) or Pig & Pickle (2922 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale)! We'll also be giving away a team-signed ball at each location!
