Phoenix Rising FC has signed Renzo Zambrano, pending league and federation approval, the club announced today.
“Renzo has experience in this league, experience at the next level, in MLS, and in winning championships,” said Rising head coach Juan Guerra. “His work rate in the midfield will give us a boost defensively. His technical ability to hold possession will allow us to play our style of football and get results.”
Zambrano began his professional career as a 17-year-old with Venezuelan first division side Monagas in 2011. Between Monagas and Deportivo Lara (2014-15), he played 87 matches in Venezuela before transferring to Real Valladolid in Spain ahead of the 2016 season. Zambrano played in 56 matches for Real Valladolid II and its first division affiliate before signing with Portland Timbers 2 ahead of the 2017 season.
Zambrano scored three goals in 47 appearances during his first stint in the USL Championship, earning himself a contract with the MLS side in 2019. He made 29 appearances for the Timbers in three seasons, helping the club win the MLS is Back Tournament in 2020 and win the Western Conference Championship in 2021. Zambrano signed with FC Pyunik of the Armenian first division in 2022. He has appeared in 16 matches this season. Zambrano has earned five Caps with the Venezuelan National Team since debuting in 2016.
