PHOENIX (November 15, 2016) — Phoenix Rising Football Club today announced it has signed three new players: defender JJ Greer and forwards Moses Danto and Jason Johnson. All contracts are pending league and USSF approval and, per league rules, the terms of the contracts will not be public.
“I saw (Moses) in a combine and thought he was outstanding … good skills, good pace, young; and I’m hoping he does really well,” said Phoenix Rising FC head coach Frank Yallop. “I traded for Jason while I was in Chicago (with MLS’s Chicago Fire) and he did well for me. He was dynamic and has a really good shot with his left foot and he’s a very good teammate. JJ comes from a team that was strong defensively and he’ll be a strong addition to our backline.”
Greer has spent the last two seasons with USL side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. He’s appeared in 49 matches (3,243 minutes) and scored two goals in that time. In 2016, the Switchbacks defense allowed just 27 goals in 30 matches, tied for the second-fewest goals allowed in the Western Conference.
Danto has been with PDL side WSA Winnipeg from 2012 to 2016. In his career he’s appeared in 54 matches (4,820 minutes) and scored 26 goals while doling out seven assists. He was named to the PDL Central Conference All-Conference team three straight seasons from 2013 to 2015.
Johnson spent his 2016 season with USL side San Antonio FC. He appeared in 27 matches (1,470 minutes) and scored three goals. Prior to that, he played under Yallop with MLS side Chicago Fire, appearing in 20 matches (610 minutes) and scoring two goals while notching two assists. Johnson was also the 13th overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft by the Houston Dynamo.
