PHOENIX (February 14, 2018) — Phoenix Rising FC announced today it has signed midfielder Evan Waldrep. The 20-year old signs his first professional contract, having last played with Grand Canyon University in 2017.
In his youth, Waldrep, a Phoenix native, won three Arizona state cups while playing with CCV. He began his college career at Creighton University playing two seasons there before transferring to Grand Canyon University. Per Top Drawer Soccer, his transfer was one of the top 3 “impact transfers” in the country. Waldrep also spent a season playing with Premier Development League club FC Tucson prior to coming to GCU. Internationally, Waldrep has represented the United States at the U16, U18, and U20 levels.
Waldrep has been on trial with club and appeared in the second half of Rising FC’s 3-2 defeat to Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls. Waldrep logged 45 minutes in the match.
Including Waldrep, the club has 24 players signed to the roster for 2018. Waldrep will be in uniform and available for selection tonight when Rising FC hosts MLS club Colorado Rapids at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex. Waldrep will wear number six.
