(October 10, 2018) — Phoenix Rising FC fell in its final road match of the regular season in a 5-2 loss to Las Vegas Lights FC. The club is set to finish the season this Saturday in the regular season finale before beginning its playoff run on Friday, October 19.
Phoenix Rising worked its way to a 2-1 lead heading into the second half.
Collin Fernandez opened the evening’s scoring in just the second minute of the match. Teammate Devin Vega cut into the box from the left side of the pitch and sent a centering pass to Fernandez at the top of the box. After taking a quick touch, Fernandez fired a shot with the outside of his foot and beat the goalkeeper to the lower right corner of the net.
After giving up a 29th-minute goal to Las Vegas’s Juan Carlos Garcia, Devin Vega converted on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute to give the club a 2-1 lead at the half.
The team held onto the lead until the 71st minute, when the Lights’ Miguel Angel Garduño scored to make it 2-2. Las Vegas would then go on to score three more goals over the next thirteen minutes to win 5-2.
Phoenix Rising finishes the regular season on Saturday at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex at 7:30 p.m. The club squares off against Portland Timbers 2 in the final regular season match for Didier Drogba. The team can clinch second place in the conference with a win.
