Phoenix Rising FC has re-signed goalkeeper Patrick Rakovsky, the club announced today.
“I am really happy to re-sign with Phoenix Rising,” said Rakovsky. “When I first signed with the team last year, I said Phoenix needs a star over its crest. Now we need to add a second one. We have a great team, a great coaching staff and great fans. We will do everything we can to get our second star in 2024.”
Rakovsky, who turned 30 on June 2, joined Phoenix on January 17, 2023. Serving as the backup to USL Championship Final MVP Rocco Rios Novo throughout the season, Rosovsky was limited to four appearances. He finished with a record of 2-2-0 across all competitions. Rakovsky stopped nine of the 14 shots he faced in league play.
The former Bundesliga goalkeeper snagged his second USL Championship Title after claiming his first cup as a part of Orange County SC in 2021. Rakovsky appeared in 55 matches for Orange County from 2021-22, stopping 153 of the 226 shots he faced and earning 13 shutouts.
Before his move to the U.S., Rakovsky played 34 games with Lahti in the Finnish Premier League during the 2019-20 seasons, following 25 games for Lierse in Belgium during the 2017-18 seasons. The German goalkeeper made his debut at the age of 18 for Bundesliga side Nürnberg in 2011, appearing in a total of 94 matches between the Bundesliga (8), 2. Bundesliga (31), and Regionalliga (55) from 2011 to 2016.
Contract negotiations continue with several out-of-contract players from the 2023 season. The club continues to explore the possibility of their return to Phoenix in 2024. Rising will provide further details on the 2024 roster as information becomes available.
