Head Coach Patrice Carteron
On winning a point in the match:
“I have the feeling that we really wanted to beat the leaders, and we were a little bit tense in the first 15 minutes. We had so many chances to score; they could have also scored in the second half on one or two attacks, so definitely we think it is a good point today because we draw against a team that just beat a record with nine consecutive wins. So I did appreciate the spirit. Step by step we are progressing; it’s now the third game (underCarteron’s management), we are unbeaten and I think we are sure to progress in the next week. It was a big challenge for us to compete against this very nice team from Salt Lake, but I’m proud of what we did tonight. We gave our best and are proud that over 6,000 people came here once again; it’s fantastic, so thank you, I really want to thank the fans. They did support us during the 93 minutes tonight and they were perfect so thank you. Thank you, they deserve this point.”
Did he feel the defense gave up too much space on the first SLC goal:
“Yeah, for sure. We played tactically different because we knew that they have Velasquez as No. 10, and if we don’t control this player, it is really hard. Most of the team did so for so much because he's a fantastic player. We didfantastic tactical job defensively to control him the whole game and I think we gave them the opportunity and they did score. But I’m happy we came back in the game and were so strong mentally to come back. We created some good chances; it would have been fantastic to score at the end but I’m happy about the game and about the point.”
On his team’s resiliency:
“(In the past) every time the team had one positive result the week after (they would have) a negative result, (then) positive result. Every time the team needed to perform every week, that’s why at the moment I’m happy we are unbeaten for three games. We need to keep on working like this. We have two games away and we have to be strong defensively and this time score more goals.”
On the heat’s effect on the game:
“I think it’s an advantage for us because we are used to it. Our players are training at night, every day, so they are used to it. We have to get used to it. Ofcourse it is an advantage. I am happy about our performance tonight.”
On the two upcoming road games:
“Our motivation is to qualify the team for the first time for the playoffs. But we need to be performing every week. Here of course in front of our fans, but also away we need to be compact and be strong also.”
Goalkeeper Josh Cohen
On being able to win a point:
“We are at home. We are always trying to get after teams, get wins especially at home, but coming away with a point against a Real Monarchs side thathpas won nine straight games is definitely not a bad result, and the way we came back from being down, fought hard, got the goal and then held out strong and dominated especially at the end was really nice.”
On what he did after giving up the first goal:
“I thought we were playing well, it was just a lapse in communication so we just focus on that, worked it out and I thought we were stellar in the second half and the end of the first half too.”
On being able to see shots well:
“(My back line) is doing all the work to make it easy for me in the back, especially in a game like this where if our positioning is right and we’re communicating well, then I have the easiest job in the world and I owe it all to them.”
On how he thought the heat affected the game:
“It’s definitely an advantage for us and it’s something that we look forward tokeep on using throughout the summer months.”
On what they take out of the game:
“It’s a result, so you always take a result positively and you just try to build on it. We are still searching for that elusive first shutout and I think it’s coming, I think our defense is really coming together nicely and I think our frontwere really moving well, were giving options and moving forward when we continue to do that we are going to be really successful.”
Forward Omar Bravo
On scoring a goal:
“I think it’s always important to score. We leave with an OKfeeling, because I think the team had some options to win. But we’ll keep trying to get better and win three points at a time.”
On what he thought of the game:
“I think it was a fair game and tight. Since they are the leaders of the league, they are a good team with good players. They have good feet, they control the ball well and when the weather conditions are strong it is difficult for us because they always have good possession of the ball and that wears us down more.”
On the performance of his team:
“I think we didn’t know how to identify when we had to press and put pressureup top because they were always patient with the ball. But even with that they didn’t have too many attempts. I think that was where the goal came from and another occasion where they had dangerous attempts, and I think this also speaks well about us because they are the leaders of the league and we were disciplined. The team comes from less to more, but we need to demonstrate it with three-point wins.”
