PHOENIX (September 8, 2017) – Two Western Conference playoff contenders will square off on Saturday night, as Phoenix Rising FC heads north to take on Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The match kicks off at 5 p.m.
Fans can also watch the match one of three ways: they can head to the club's official watch party at the Thirsty Lion in Tempe Marketplace. They can watch live locally on YurView Arizona Cox Channels 4 & 1004 (Phoenix) or 7 & 1007 (Tucson). Or fans can watch online at www.www.phxrisingfc.com.
Once again, Phoenix Rising has a chance to rewrite the club record books. A win or draw would break Rising FC’s all-time best point total in a season. The current high mark for points in a season is 34, which was set by last year’s squad. (NOTE: the team earned 35 points in 2014, but had two deducted for fielding an ineligible player, finishing the season with 33 points).
The team can also break its record-long unbeaten streak with a win or draw. Phoenix Rising matched the club record following a 0-0 draw against Orange County SC on Wednesday.
Phoenix Rising will be on the road for the first time in three weeks on Saturday, after completing a three-game home stand that saw the club pick up 7 points.
Colorado Springs meanwhile, sit a spot above Phoenix Rising thanks to a goal-differential tiebreak. Both clubs have 34 points, but Rising FC has three games in hand on Switchbacks FC.
Saturday’s hosts are winless in their last three, most recently drawing 2-2 with Sacramento Republic FC. Switchbacks FC are led in attack by Kevaugh Frater, who has 8 goals this season. He and Mastanabal Kacher share the team lead for assist with each tallying six so far this year.
Defensively, Colorado Springs goalkeeper Moise Poutay has five clean sheets this season with a 68.1 save percentage.
Saturday will be the second meeting between Phoenix Rising and Colorado Springs Switchbacks this year. On July 15, Rising FC won in come-from-behind fashion, thanks to two second-half goals from Jason Johnson. That win set the club's unbeaten streak record.
That victory was the club’s first ever over Colorado Springs. Prior to that, they had lost all four all-time meetings.
