PHOENIX (November 30, 2018) — Phoenix Rising Football Club announced today that defender Doueugui Mala would return for the 2019 season. Per club policy, the details of the contract will not be made public.
Mala first signed with the club on August 10, 2017. During his second season, Mala played 1,295 minutes in 16 appearances. Along the back line, Mala was fourth on the club in clearances (74), second in blocks (12), and fifth in tackles won (22).
Last season, Mala played 855 minutes in 10 appearances and finished tied for third in the team in clearances (54). The Ivorian defender came to Phoenix Rising from Ivorian side Williamsville Athletic Club. He helped Williamsville finish second in the Ivory Coast’s top division, which qualified them for the 2018 CAF Champions League
Mala becomes the ninth player officially announced for the 2019 roster.
