PHOENIX (September 29, 2017) — Phoenix Rising FC can complete a perfect four-game road trip on Saturday when it heads to Northern California to take on Sacramento Republic FC on September 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Fans can also watch the match one of three ways: they can watch live locally on YurView Arizona Cox Channels 4 & 1004 (Phoenix) or 7 & 1007 (Tucson). They can head to the club's official watch party at the Thirsty Lion in Tempe Marketplace. Or fans can watch online at www.PHXRisingFC.com.
Rising FC clinched its first-ever playoff berth in its most recent match, a 2-0 win at Portland Timbers 2. The victory was the team’s fifth straight win and 11th straight match without a loss.
Saturday’s trip to Sacramento will be the last leg of a four-game road trip for Phoenix Rising. The two-week excursion has been a successful one, as the team has won the first three contests by a combined score of 7-0.
Improved defense has helped the team go on its recent streak of success. Wednesday’s shutout was the club’s fourth straight clean sheet, and sixth in the last seven matches. Rising FC conceded 27 goals in its first 17 games this year (1.59 per game), but have surrendered just 4 in the 11 since (0.36 per game).
Offensively, forward Jason Johnson became the first player on this season’s team – and second ever in club history – to score 10 goals in the campaign. Midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips also got his name back on the scoresheet in Portland, scoring the eventual game-winner with an early tap-in against Timbers 2.
Saturday’s match will be the last home game for Sacramento this season. Republic FC have played each of their last three at Papa Murphy’s Park, but won just once. The cub is 7-4-4 at home overall this year.
Sacramento also played this past Wednesday, falling 2-0 to Real Monarchs SLC. The game prior, Republic FC suffered a 3-1 defeat to OKC Energy FC.
Republic FC has five scorers with at least 5 goals this year, led by Villyan Bijev who has netted nine this year. Sacramento’s 40 total goals this season is good for 11th in the USL and is the same amount Phoenix Rising has.
Phoenix Rising and Sacramento Republic have met just once this season, a 3-1 win for Rising FC at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex back on August 26. Chris Cortez, Johnson and Peter Ramage scored that night for Rising FC. Overall, Phoenix Rising is 2-4-3 against Sacramento Republic all-time.
