PHOENIX (September 5, 2017) — Phoenix Rising FC will be gunning to complete a perfect three-game homestand on Wednesday, September 6, when they host Orange County SC at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.

Tickets for the match are still available and can be purchased at Fans can also watch the match live locally on YurView Arizona Cox Channels 4 & 1004 (Phoenix) or 7 & 1007 (Tucson) or online at

Phoenix Rising enter the match on a five-match unbeaten streak, and winners of its last two. The team will have a chance to equal club records for longest winning streak and longest home winning streak with a victory over Orange County. A win or a draw would also match a club-long six-match unbeaten streak which was set earlier this season.

Despite being six points out of a playoff spot when the three-match homestand began, Rising FC have ascended into the top eight after two-goal wins against Sacramento Republic FC and Seattle Sounders FC 2. Each of the team’s last three wins (including an August 5 win over LA Galaxy II) have come by two goals; prior to this streak of wins, the team had not won by more than one goal all season.

Head coach Patrice Carteron has had a magic touch with the squad since taking over in early June. The first-year coach has gone 5-2-6 to begin his Rising FC tenure, and has helped improve the club’s defense. The team has conceded only three goals in its last five matches.

Orange County, on the other hand, did not win a single match during the entire month of August. In their last two matches—both losses—the club was outscored 5-2. In its last eight matches, Orange County is 0-4-4. They have fallen to 11th place in the Western Conference standings with 29 points.

Goalkeeper Charlie Lyon has played every USL match for Orange County, earning five clean sheets while saving 67 percent the shots he has faced. Offensively, Irvin Parra is the only Orange County player (six goals) with more than five goals this year.

Phoenix Rising forward Jason Johnson has scored a goal in each of his club’s last two games, bringing his season total to a team-leading seven. Forward Chris Cortez has filled in nicely for the injured Didier Drogba as well, scoring twice in the last three games.

Rising FC earned their first home clean sheet of the season against Seattle last Saturday, thanks in large part to goalkeeper Josh Cohen. In his return from injury, Cohen made a spectacular diving save in stoppage time to preserve what was a 1-0 lead at the time. His efforts earned him a spot on the USL Team of the Week.

Wednesday will be the third and final meeting between Orange County and Phoenix Rising this season. Both of the previous two games saw late equalizers to split the points. On July 8, Didier Drogba scored on a free kick to save a 1-1 draw for Phoenix. Three weeks ago, with Rising FC down a man, Orange County got a game-tying goal from Sola Abolaji  in the 89th minute. Phoenix Rising leads the all-time series 6-4-3.
