PHOENIX (July 8, 2017) — Phoenix Rising FC forward Didier Drogba saved the club from a sure loss with a stoppage-time free kick goal to give the club a 1-1 draw with Orange County Soccer Club. Rising FC (5-5-4) is now unbeaten in five matches, a new club record.
Orange County (4-4-3) had a 1-0 lead in stoppage time due to an 84th-minute free kick goal from Roy Meeus. But with one minute remaining in stoppage time, Phoenix Rising FC midfielder A.J. Gray drew
a foul several feet outside of the penalty area. Standing to the right of the target, Drogba sent his shot toward the near right corner of the net and beat the goalkeeper for the dramatic equalizer.
