Both clubs battled to a 0-0 stalemate after the first 45 minutes of play. Jahn and Asante each had their chances within the first half-hour of the match. Asante took a shot from 25-plus yards away that was right at the goalkeeper. Jahn drove into the box and took aim for the near left post but missed wide.

But in the 53rd minute, Rio Grande Valley’s Carlos Small got in behind the defense and had a 1v1 opportunity on Lubin. Small beat the goalkeeper but his shot bounced off the inside of the far right post are rolled harmlessly away with the score remaining 0-0. Soon after, Rising FC took advantage of its best opportunity.

In the 62nd minute, Asante got the ball out wide on the right flank. He curled a cross into the box for the head of Jahn and the forward powered it toward his right as he was falling away to his left. The shot had enough power on it to deflect off the goalkeeper’s glove, then off the bottom of the crossbar, and into the net for the game-winner.
