PHOENIX (May 24, 2019) — Midfielder Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu has been called up from USL League One affiliate FC Tucson by Phoenix Rising FC. Wheeler-Omiunu has appeared and started in seven matches, logging a team-leading 630 minutes with the FC Tucson this season. He is also the team’s leader in interceptions (16) and third on the club in tackles won (8). He’s helped contribute to two clean sheets this season.
This marks the third call up from FC Tucson to Phoenix Rising following the callups of Kyle Bjornethun and Austin Ledbetter. The duo made their first starts with Phoenix Rising in the club’s 4-0 win over Las Vegas Lights on May 18 becoming the first two USL League One players to ever start a USL Championship game.
Wheeler-Omiunu will wear number 35 and is available for selection tomorrow when Phoenix Rising travels to face Real Monarchs.
