(October 21, 2017) — Soooooo, that was interesting last night.
After 45 minutes of playoff soccer in Kansas City, the skies opened and the rain, thunder, and lightning joined the party, causing the match to be suspended justed before the second half was to begin.
Now, what happens?
Phoenix Rising FC and Swope Park will continue its match after the world's longest halftime at 1 p.m. Arizona time this afternoon. The teams will not be re-starting the match, however. They will just be playing the second half.
Should the match still be even after that 45 minutes, they will move on to two 15-minute frames of extra time. If it's still drawn after that, it moves on to penalties.
Not much happened in the first half as neither team created dangerous opportunities offensively. The best chance of the half came in the 30th minute on a Phoenix Rising FC corner.
Didier Drogba managed to find Chris Cortez in the box. Cortez sent a looping header toward the far right corner of the net but was denied by the Swope goalkeeper who made a diving stop.
Neither team used their subs in the first half of the match, so both entire benches will be available.
The club will continue its official watch party at the Thirsty Lion in Tempe Marketplace. Fan are encouraged to arrive early prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff start.
The match will also air on YurView Arizona, Cox channels 4 & 1004 in addition to online at PHXRisingFC.com
