LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC attacking midfielder George Davis IV earned USL Team of the Week honors on Tuesday afternoon, and his strong start to the season to lead the undefeated team with three goals continued to draw praise from City Head Coach James O’Connor in his weekly press conference.

“When you look at his work ethic, his contribution to the game, and his goal, the goal alone is a major contribution,” said O’Connor. “But when you look at his overall contribution, it was fantastic. I think his intensity to his work is great, so we’ve been really, really pleased with George.”

A three-time USL All-League selection in past seasons, Davis has certainly been putting in the work all across the field in addition to his goal-scoring streak for Louisville. A former standout for the University of Kentucky, Davis also won 10 duels against the Rowdies and made four tackles in addition to his attacking duties, where he has put nine of his 10 shots so far this season on target.

With a clash against FC Cincinnati coming up this Saturday at Nippert Stadium in the first edition of the River Cities Cup, that type of work rate will be key if Louisville is to remain undefeated.

“He’s a great role model for everybody in the changing room,” said O’Connor. “He trains really well and does all of the things that we ask of him. Really pleased with him to see him playing so well. Really, really happy with George.”

Saturday’s game will also be a chance for Luke Spencer to go up against the side he competed for a season ago, with the ex-Xavier University man and Cincinnati native making his return after having notched his first goal for City in a recent 3-1 win against Orlando City B. With a big crowd expected – including a strong contingent of Louisville fans set to make the trip – the renewal of the rivalry is something O’Connor is looking forward to.

“It’ll be a very tough game for us,” O'Connor said. “Intimidating atmosphere, but again a game we all look forward to. Great rivalry. Our supporters will be up there again. Hopefully in lots of numbers.”
