SAN FRANCISCO – Sacramento Republic FC played to a 0-0 draw against the San Francisco Deltas on Saturday night at Kezar Stadium in a preseason exhibition. Goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek and Republic FC's defense held the Deltas scoreless in their first home match at Kezar Stadium.
The Deltas had the first strong look at a goal in the ninth minute when midfielder Kyle Bekker had a one-on-one opportunity with Republic FC keeper Dominik Jakubek, but Jakubek was able to get to a knee quickly to block Bekker’s shot to deny the initial effort and then saved the second shot, corralling the rebound to keep the match scoreless.
Republic FC created its best chance of the half in the 20th minute when Danny Barrera took a corner that found fellow midfielder Adam Moffat at the back corner of the penalty area. Moffat took a few touches before laying the ball off to midfielder Agustin Cazarez, who sent a beautifully curling cross toward the back post. Deltas’ keeper Romuald Peiser made a leaping deflection, and Barrera was called offside as he tried to gather the rebound.
Republic FC came out aggressively in the second half, and almost took the lead two minutes after the break when Barrera laid the ball off to defender Emrah Klimenta, who was making an overlapping run on the right side. Klimenta fired a low cross into the penalty area that found Trevin Caesar but the forward’s shot was deflected high off the goal.
The Deltas’ Jackson went close 20 minutes into the second half when he received the ball near the right corner of the penalty area following a few back and forth passes on the right side. Jackson found a clear shot on goal, but Jakubek covered his net perfectly to save.
Despite a push by Republic FC’s substitutes in the final quarter of the match, neither defense would yield a goal, ending the match in a scoreless draw.
